Just then, her phone buzzed, breaking the spell. It was a text from her best friend, Rachel.
As she waited in line, her gaze drifted to a photo on the wall – a black and white picture of a couple laughing, arms wrapped around each other. It was a picture from a past era, one that seemed so far removed from her own reality. The couple in the photo looked so carefree, so in love. Why couldn't that be her
She typed out a response, her fingers flying across the screen. "I'm okay, Rach. Just taking it one day at a time."
