The Exchange was dim, lit by a single blue lantern that hummed like a trapped insect. Shelves lined the walls, each shelf crowded with tiny jars, folded notes, and trinkets wrapped in patience. Years later, they returned to Gamato Full as strangers who knew its language. The market had shifted—new vendors with fresher dreams had arrived—and the original Exchange tent had folded into memory and rumor. The blue lantern had burned out, but someone had set a simple stall by the canal where a new woman stacked tiny jars labeled with single words: courage, hunger, memory.
